Don't Starve โ survival in a Wilderness where hunger writes the rules
Don't Starve is a game about a scientist named Wilson, dragged into a grim, procedurally generated wilderness by the demon Maxwell, who tells him: "Say, pal, you don't look so good." There's no tutorial, no quest marker, no on-screen prompt telling you what to do. You simply stand in the woods as the sun sets, and before the first night falls you have to figure out that fire is your only friend. Klei Entertainment released it on April 23, 2013, and it has remained a benchmark for how brutal survival can be cruel and charming at the same time.
On this page you're buying Don't Starve as a Steam gift. It's the full base game: our bot delivers the gift straight to your Steam account, and it installs into your library like any normal purchase โ with cloud saves, achievements and updates.
What makes Don't Starve special
The whole point of the game is that it explains nothing, and that's exactly why it teaches so well. Every death โ from starvation, darkness, bees, hounds or plain greed โ leaves a lesson behind. You learn not to chop trees at night, that shadow monsters arrive when your sanity drops, that winter demands warm clothing and summer sets everything on fire. Bit by bit a confused newcomer turns into someone who, by day three, is already building a science machine, drying meat racks and planning to survive the first winter.
- Hand-drawn Tim Burton mood. Angular silhouettes, paper textures and nervy music make the world instantly recognizable.
- Permadeath. When you die, the world resets. It's not punishment but a driver: every run is more honest than the last.
- Dozens of recipes and creatures. Science, magic, traps, farms, taming โ the game unfolds in layers.
- Unlockable characters. Willow with her lighter, the strongman Wolfgang, Wendy with her ghost sister โ each plays differently.
Editions and add-ons
This page is the base Don't Starve game. Worth knowing: it has classic story expansions sold separately that require the base game โ Reign of Giants (seasonal bosses and new biomes, 2014), Shipwrecked (tropical islands and ocean, 2015) and Hamlet (a city of pig-people, 2018). You can add them later inside Steam itself โ they don't change the base game until you switch them on.
Gift region and how it works
Because this is a Steam gift, there are two simple conditions. First: your Steam account region must match the gift region โ this option covers 40 regions, so just enter yours at checkout. Second: Don't Starve must not already be in your library, otherwise Steam refuses to accept the gift. Steam Guard doesn't have to be on โ the gift arrives without it.
The rest is handled by our bot: you provide a friend invite link, the bot adds itself, sends the gift (usually within a couple of minutes) and leaves your friends list once it's delivered. All you do is click "Accept" in the Steam window.
If you love Klei survival
Enjoyed the gatherโbuildโsurvive-the-night loop? Then you'll like the co-op version Don't Starve Together, where you can run the same world with friends, and the studio's other hit Oxygen Not Included, a colony survival sim set underground. And if you want even more brutal solo survival, check out The Forest.
How much there is to do, and will it run on your machine
Don't Starve launches on almost any modern computer: it's light on the GPU, runs great on laptops, and works smoothly on the Steam Deck and on Linux via Proton. The controls are simple โ mouse and a couple of keys โ but the depth comes from its systems: changing seasons, sanity, temperature, hunger and dozens of recipes that open up as you explore. Your first runs probably won't even reach winter, and that's the joy of it: you're not buying a finished playthrough, you're buying a skill that grows from death to death. Many players keep coming back for years, because every new world is generated fresh and throws new problems at you.
What you actually get
Once you accept the gift, Don't Starve is permanently tied to your Steam account โ it's owned, not rented, not a subscription. You get cloud saves, achievements, Workshop support and all future patches for the base game. There are no keys to type in by hand: the gift arrives ready, and all you do is click "Accept".
The short version
You get an honest, deep and still-relevant survival game that costs little but can swallow hundreds of hours. No subscriptions, no servers โ accept the gift once, and Don't Starve is yours on Steam forever.
