Death Stranding Director's Cut: the expanded journey of Sam Porter
Death Stranding Director's Cut is the extended edition of Hideo Kojima's 'strand game', the first project from Kojima Productions after leaving Konami. You play Sam Porter Bridges, voiced and modelled by Norman Reedus: a courier who single-handedly stitches a disaster-torn America back into one connected network. Death Stranding isn't a shooter or a classic walking sim โ it's a game about the road, the cargo on your back, balance, weather and the bonds between people who help each other without ever meeting. Here we sell it as a Steam gift: you place the order and our bot sends the game straight into your library through the gifting system.
What this game actually is
The world of Death Stranding survived an event that began merging the worlds of the living and the dead: invisible creatures (BTs) roam the surface, and any contact with death risks a voidout that wipes out everything nearby. People locked themselves into underground bunkers, and the only way to connect them is delivery. You pick up cargo, plot a route across mountains, rivers and chiral wastes, manage Sam's balance under a heavy pack, and gradually extend the chiral network from one node to the next. Along the way the story unfolds around BB, Amelie, Fragile, Higgs and the truth behind the Death Stranding itself.
What the Director's Cut specifically adds
The Director's Cut isn't cosmetic โ it's a noticeably expanded version. On top of the base game it adds new weapons and equipment, extra vehicles, a racing track, a firing range, new combat and story missions, expanded staged scenes and UI refinements. If you've never played Death Stranding before, the Director's Cut is the best starting point, because the base game is already inside and you don't need to buy anything separately.
Full game vs upgrade โ which to pick
There are two variants in this card, and it's important not to mix them up. The 'Full game' variant is the entire Death Stranding Director's Cut: the base story plus all Director's Cut content in a single gift. The 'Upgrade' variant is only an add-on: it layers Director's Cut content onto a standard Death Stranding you already own on the same Steam account, and it simply won't run without it. The rule is simple: if you don't own base Death Stranding yet, take the 'Full game'; if the standard version is already in your library and you only want the Director's Cut content, take the 'Upgrade'.
How we deliver the gift
This is a Steam Gift sent by our supplier's bot. At checkout you provide two things: your Steam friend invite link (grab it from your profile via the 'Add Friend' button โ copy the s.team/p/... link) and your Steam account region. The bot then adds itself to your friends, sends the gift, and automatically leaves your friends list after delivery โ you don't need to accept the request manually. Steam Guard doesn't have to be enabled for this. Delivery usually takes a couple of minutes from ordering, but that's a typical speed rather than a strict guarantee.
Region and whether you already own the game
Two conditions decide whether Steam accepts the gift. First: your account region must match the region of the chosen variant โ the gift is available for around 47 regions, so pick the one matching your Steam country. Second: for the 'Full game', the Director's Cut must not already be in your library (Steam won't let you accept a gift for a game you already own โ the single most common cause of failure). For the 'Upgrade' the logic is reversed: standard Death Stranding must be in your library, while the Director's Cut itself must not.
Where you can play it
This is the PC version for Steam, published on PC by 505 Games. It runs fine on Steam Deck via Proton and carries a Playable status there, so you can take the delivery saga on the go. Since you receive a gift of the Steam version, your access is exactly the same as a normal Steam purchase: your own copy in the library, cloud saves and updates.
If you enjoy this kind of slow open world
Death Stranding is about the route, the atmosphere and solitude in a vast world, and if that's your thing, check out other big open worlds in our catalogue: the grim neon of Cyberpunk 2077, the living Wild West of Red Dead Redemption 2 and the harsh dark fantasy of Elden Ring. All are large single-player story games centred on travel and mood.
The purchase in short
You receive Death Stranding Director's Cut as a Steam gift: you provide an invite link and region, the bot sends the game, you accept it in Steam โ and the Director's Cut of Sam Porter's journey is yours. Check your region and that the game isn't already in your library before paying โ that clears up 99% of possible delivery hiccups.
