Dead Cells โ€” Steam Gift

About the game

Dead Cells is a roguevania where death isn't punishment but a reset: every run you re-assemble weapons, mutations and routes across a constantly shifting island. Frantic combat, hundreds of gear options and the signature loop of "kill, die, learn, repeat." You get the base game as a Steam Gift dropped straight into your library.

Once the gift is delivered it cannot be refunded. If Steam rejects the gift due to region mismatch, the full amount is returned to your site balance.

FAQ

Dead Cells: kill, die, learn, repeat โ€” and grab the base game as a Steam Gift

Dead Cells is the game that turns "just one more run" into three in the morning. France's Motion Twin, together with Evil Empire, built a roguevania: a blend of roguelike and Metroidvania where you carve through a shifting island, die, lose almost everything, then immediately start over โ€” a little smarter and a little angrier. The full release landed on August 7, 2018, and since then the game has earned a reputation as one of the most responsive 2D action titles around. Here you're buying the base version of Dead Cells, which we deliver to you as a Steam Gift straight into your library.

What a roguevania is and why Dead Cells hooks you

Every run starts the same way โ€” a nameless mass of cells takes over a body and picks up a weapon. After that, everything is unique: levels reshuffle, weapons and mutations drop at random, and your routes across the island depend on which abilities you've already unlocked. Die, and you lose the gold and gear of the current run, but you permanently keep blueprints, lasting upgrades and your own understanding of how to avoid a dumb death. Combat is fast and precise: rolls, parries, traps, and combos across two weapons and a shield. It isn't a brutal soulslike, but hits carry weight and bosses make you learn their timings.

What's in this base version

You get the full base Dead Cells game with all of its progression: dozens of weapons and shields, mutations, biomes, bosses and the signature blueprint system. The major free Rise of the Giant update is already built into the base โ€” it added new levels, enemies and a boss back in 2019 and comes bundled in, no separate purchase needed. The paid story expansions, however, are a different story below.

DLC and expansions: what goes beyond the base

The base Dead Cells is complete on its own, but over time the studio released several paid expansions that add new biomes, weapons and bosses. All of them require the base game and are bought separately:

  • The Bad Seed (February 11, 2020) โ€” two new biomes and an early-game boss.
  • Fatal Falls (January 26, 2021) โ€” new levels, weapons and a mid-game boss.
  • The Queen and the Sea (January 6, 2022) โ€” endgame biomes and an alternate ending.
  • Return to Castlevania (March 6, 2023) โ€” a large crossover with the Castlevania universe: Dracula, Richter, themed weapons and music.

This listing is the base game only. Expansions are not included here, and they won't run without the base, so if you're new, this is exactly where to start.

How we deliver the Steam Gift

Delivery goes through a bot. You provide your Steam friend invite link and your account region, place the order โ€” then the bot adds itself to your friends, sends the gift, and leaves your friends list once it's delivered. You don't need to accept the friend request manually, and Steam Guard isn't required to receive the gift. The whole process usually takes a couple of minutes, though that's not a hard guarantee โ€” sometimes it's a touch longer.

Region and ownership โ€” the two key conditions

For Steam to let you accept the gift, two conditions must line up. First: your Steam account region matches the gift region โ€” this is the #1 reason gifts fail. Second: Dead Cells must not already be in your account's library, because you can't gift a game to someone who already owns it. Enter your real region in the order field and pick the matching option. We never need your login or password โ€” only the public invite link.

Platforms and Steam Deck

Dead Cells shipped on Windows, macOS, Linux, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation and Xbox, but here you get the Steam PC version. The game has native Linux and macOS builds, and on Steam Deck it feels right at home: light 2D visuals, a stable framerate and tight controls make it a perfect handheld pick on the go.

Who Dead Cells is for

If you love it when skill matters more than gear and you're happy to learn from your own deaths, this is your game. Fans of fast roguelikes like Hades, atmospheric metroidvanias such as Hollow Knight, or hand-drawn hardcore action like Cuphead will slot Dead Cells right into the collection. Grab the base game as a gift, check your region and ownership, and dive into your first run.
