Darksiders Genesis: where the Horsemen's war began
Darksiders Genesis is a prequel to the entire Darksiders series, winding the story back to a point before the Seven Seals existed and when the balance between Heaven and Hell hung by a thread. Developer Airship Syndicate (built from veterans of the original Vigil Games) and publisher THQ Nordic made a bold move: instead of the usual over-the-shoulder view, the game shifts to a fast, top-down hack and slash. And the trademark grim universe loses none of its character in the process.
This is the first time you take control of the fourth Horseman — Strife. He's the one brother who favours a pair of pistols over a blade, and his gunplay brings a brand-new rhythm to the series' melee carnage. At any moment you can also summon War — the hero of the very first game — with his heavy blade. By buying a Steam gift from us, you get the full version of the game delivered straight to your Steam library.
What the story is about
The Council sends Strife and War to investigate a conspiracy: the demon lord Lucifer is scheming to corrupt humanity and tip the fragile balance. Chasing the plot, the Horsemen descend into Hell itself, bargain with demons, fight bosses from the series' bestiary, and gradually steer the plot toward events fans know from the first Darksiders. This isn't a spin-off for the sake of it — Genesis honestly explains where the Seals came from and why the whole mess started.
How it plays
The core hook of Genesis is switching between two Horsemen. Strife works at range: pistols, dodge rolls, crowd control. War is melee — heavy hits and breaking through defences. In single-player you swap between them with one button, weaving gunfire and sword combos together. In two-player co-op each of you takes a Horseman, and the gunner-and-tank duo turns into a small tactical show.
- ⚔️ Fast top-down combat with two completely different heroes.
- 👥 Two-player co-op — run the campaign together with a friend.
- 🔮 A skill tree via Creature Cores: upgrade damage, survivability and passives.
- 🗺️ Level exploration with platforming, secrets and series-style puzzles.
What's in the gift
You get the base Darksiders Genesis game for PC on Steam — the full version, no subscriptions and no need to buy anything separately to finish the campaign. It's a standalone product: you don't need the previous series entries to play, though if you've finished them you'll spot plenty of familiar faces and catch more references.
How we deliver the gift
Delivery goes through Steam Gift. We need two things from you: your Steam friend invite link and your account region. The bot handles the rest — it adds itself to your friends, sends the gift (usually within a couple of minutes), and leaves your friends list on its own after delivery. You don't need to accept the friend request, and Steam Guard isn't required to receive the gift.
There are two important conditions, without which Steam physically won't let you accept the gift. First: your Steam account region must match the chosen gift region — so enter your real region in the field at checkout. Second: Darksiders Genesis must not already be in that account's library — Steam won't accept a gift for a game you already own. If both points are fine, all that's left is to click "Accept" — and the game is yours.
Quick common questions
Do I need a powerful PC? No, Genesis is light and runs comfortably on mid-range hardware and laptops. Are there Russian subtitles? Yes, the game includes Russian subtitles. Can I play with a controller? Yes, the controls work equally well on a gamepad and on keyboard and mouse. And if the bot couldn't add you — it's almost always a private profile or an outdated invite link: enable friend requests and send a fresh link.
If the Darksiders universe clicks with you
Genesis is a great entry point into the series, but if you want the classic over-the-shoulder view and a big story campaign, check out the other chapters. Look at Darksiders Warmastered Edition — the remaster of the first game about War, a direct continuation of the Genesis events. The sequel about Death is Darksiders II Deathinitive Edition, with an expanded loot-driven adventure. And the most recent chapter, about Fury, is Darksiders III. All four games together form one complete apocalypse saga from THQ Nordic.
