Darkest Dungeon โ the gothic roguelike that breaks heroes faster than any monster
Darkest Dungeon is a turn-based gothic roguelike from Red Hook Studios where your real enemy isn't the dungeon โ it's your heroes' own minds. You inherit a family estate whose ancestor dug up something that should have stayed buried. Now you recruit adventurers, march them through corrupted halls, and push toward the Darkest Dungeon itself before stress, hunger and madness wipe out your party first. What you're buying here is a Steam gift of the base Darkest Dungeon game: once delivered, it lands in your Steam library as a full copy.
Why Darkest Dungeon hooks you instead of just scaring you
The signature mechanic is stress and affliction. Every hero carries a sanity meter: confronted with horror, blood and the death of allies, they can crack mid-fight โ turning paranoid, lashing out at teammates, refusing healing, or sometimes finding sudden heroism instead. The narrator who comments on your every triumph and failure has long become a series icon. This isn't horror built on jump-scares โ it's a game about how pressure breaks people and what you're willing to sacrifice for a run to succeed.
What the base game includes
This is the full version of Darkest Dungeon, which left Early Access on January 19, 2016 (Early Access itself began in early 2015). The base game already includes:
- 16 hero classes โ from the Crusader and Highwayman to the Plague Doctor, the Hellion and the Leper;
- five main dungeon regions with their own enemies and bosses, plus the final Darkest Dungeon;
- a town hub you rebuild and upgrade between expeditions: sanitarium, tavern, abbey, blacksmith;
- dozens of trinkets, diseases, quirks and perks that give every hero a distinct personality.
The story expansions โ The Crimson Court (2017), The Color of Madness (2018), The Shieldbreaker and the PvP mode The Butcher's Circus โ are separate DLC. Here you're buying the base game; the DLC can be added separately on Steam and require the base game to play.
How the Steam gift works
We don't send a key code โ Darkest Dungeon is delivered as an actual Steam Gift through our bot. You provide your Steam friend invite link and your account region, place the order, and the bot handles the rest: it adds itself, sends the gift, and leaves your friends list after delivery. You don't have to accept the friend request manually, and Steam Guard is not required to receive the gift. The whole thing usually takes a couple of minutes, though we don't promise a strict timing โ occasional delays happen, as with any service like this.
Two conditions Steam won't waive
Steam gifts are picky about region and ownership. For a smooth delivery:
- Your Steam account region must match the gift region. We offer variants with different coverage โ pick the one that fits your country. If the regions don't match, Steam simply won't let you accept the gift.
- Darkest Dungeon must not already be in that account's library. Steam blocks accepting a gift for a game you already own, so the gift can't be delivered to such an account.
- Friend requests must be allowed in your profile settings โ otherwise the bot can't reach you.
What it runs on
Darkest Dungeon runs great on PC (Windows), macOS and Linux, and it's Steam Deck Verified โ the controls and interface suit a gamepad and a small screen, so it travels well. It's one of those games perfect for short sessions: one expedition, one story about how everything went sideways.
If it pulls you in โ where to go next
Once the estate is cleared (or it swallows you whole), the natural next step is Darkest Dungeon II: the same trademark stress, now reshaped as a roguelite road trip. And if you want more tactical, replay-heavy turn-based roguelikes, check out Slay the Spire โ a card-based roguelike that eats hundreds of hours.
Who it's for
Darkest Dungeon is for players who like a game that respects and punishes them at once: deliberate decisions, managing both resources and nerves, a high stake on every mistake. If you're ready to lose favorite heroes, curse the RNG and still come back for "just one more run", this gift is for you. Mind the region match and the empty-library rule โ then enjoy one of the most atmospheric roguelikes of its generation.
