CODE VEIN β an anime soulslike about the last Revenants
CODE VEIN is an action RPG from Bandai Namco Studios and the Shift team (the one behind God Eater), released on September 27, 2019. The world has collapsed: the remnants of humanity became Revenants β nearly immortal, but paying for it with a thirst for blood. Without blood, a Revenant loses their mind and turns into a Lost β a mindless monster. You play as an amnesiac hero making your way through the ruins of the prison-city Vein to learn who you are and why the world became this way. Here you get the game as a Steam GIFT β it lands straight in your library and stays yours forever.
Blood Codes and Gifts β classes you can swap on the fly
The combat's signature feature is Blood Codes. They're essentially preset classes: one grants the strength of a heavy warrior, another dexterity, a third magic-like "Gifts." The beauty is that you can swap a code almost anytime at a save point, and carry learned Gifts between codes. Want to be a tank with a giant hammer, then an hour later a light fighter with paired blades and buffs? CODE VEIN lets you do it without re-leveling from scratch. Progression runs on collecting Haze (the local souls/XP analog), which you drop on death and can recover by running back to where you fell β the classic soulslike loop.
Blood Veils and the style of blood
Weapons in CODE VEIN come in types β swords, bayonets, spears, two-handed hammers β paired with a Blood Veil: a special "cloak" you use to drain enemies' blood and charge Gifts. Veils have different drain animations and bonuses, so your weapon and veil together shape your style. Combat is built on stamina, parrying and dodge timing, while bosses are separate tests of patience, with phases and flashy attacks in an anime style.
World, memory and the character creator
CODE VEIN is also a story about memory. Between sorties you dive into companions' Memories through shattered blood shards (Vestiges): you gather their fragments and reconstruct the heroes' pasts, gradually understanding how the world reached catastrophe and what Revenants really are. The hub gives you a breather β there you talk to partners, craft items and tune your build before the next trip into the mist. A point of pride is the character creator: dozens of hairstyles, faces, accessories and color schemes in a pure anime style, so your Revenant truly looks unique rather than a faceless preset. Many return to the editor more than once a playthrough just for a new look.
A soulslike, but not alone
The biggest way CODE VEIN differs from classic Souls is a constant partner. The story pairs you with companions (Louis, Io, Mia and others), and you take one into battle as an AI-controlled ally. They tank hits, distract enemies and pick you up when you fall. This noticeably softens the entry barrier: dying is still easy, but you're not left one-on-one with a crowd. If you like, you can play most of the game co-op with another player online.
Which editions are available as a gift
Two CODE VEIN editions are available in the catalog:
- Standard β the full base game: the whole story, all base-version Blood Codes and weapons, co-op and the deep character creator.
- Deluxe Edition β the same game plus a bundle of extra content (a season pass with three story DLC and cosmetic bonuses). If you want the maximum content right away, get Deluxe.
How the gift arrives
No keys to enter. After payment the FZR sender bot will add you as a Steam friend, send your chosen CODE VEIN edition as a gift and then unfriend you β you won't have to manually confirm trades or requests, you just accept the gift in your library and download the game. We never log into your account, so there's no need to turn Steam Guard on or off. Two conditions for successful delivery: your chosen CODE VEIN edition must not already be in your library (you can't gift what's already owned), and your Steam account region must match the gift region. The gift usually arrives within a couple of minutes.
Region and platform
This is the Steam version (Windows, PC); on Steam Deck and Linux it runs through Proton, but officially it's for Windows β it's worth checking recent compatibility reviews before buying. Since this is a gift, region matters: match your Steam account region with the gift region, and if you're unsure, ask us in advance.
