Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 β the RPG event of 2025, as a Steam gift
Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is the debut project of French studio Sandfall Interactive, published by Kepler Interactive and released on April 24, 2025. It's a turn-based role-playing game, but with a living, reactive combat system: you don't just pick commands from a menu β you parry, dodge and counter enemy attacks in real time. The game sold millions of copies and, in December 2025, swept The Game Awards, including Game of the Year. Here you can buy Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 as a Steam gift β in Standard or Deluxe β delivered straight to your account.
What the story is about
The world of Clair Obscur lives under the shadow of the Paintress. Once a year she awakens and writes a number on a colossal Monolith. Everyone who has reached that age scatters into petals and vanishes β a ritual called the Gommage, and each year the number drops. When the Monolith reads "33", Expedition 33 sets out on a final journey: a party sworn to reach the Paintress and end the count before it reaches them. You lead Gustave, Maelle and their companions across a surreal, Belle Γpoque-inspired continent β beautiful and lethal in equal measure.
Why it's worth playing
- Reaction-based combat. Turn-based actions blend with real-time parrying, dodging and aimed shots: you only take a hit if you miss the timing, and a perfect parry opens up powerful counters.
- Build freedom. The Pictos and Lumina system grants dozens of passive and skill combinations, so each hero can be tailored to your style β from a glass-cannon crit sniper to an unbreakable tank.
- An artful world. Architecture and costumes draw on French Belle Γpoque, and the visual language is built on the play of light and shadow β hence "clair obscur", chiaroscuro.
- The music. Lorien Testard's soundtrack is a reason on its own: its orchestral and vocal themes became one of the most talked-about parts of the project.
Standard vs Deluxe β the difference
We offer two gift variants, and they differ only in cosmetics, not in the game itself:
- Standard Edition β the complete game: the full story, every boss, all progression. If you just want Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 itself, this edition is enough.
- Deluxe Edition β the same complete game plus the "The Flowers" cosmetic set: extra outfits and hairstyles, along with two unique looks β "Clair" for Maelle and "Obscur" for Gustave. Everything unlocks in the wardrobe and changes appearance only, with no combat advantage.
In short: buying for the story and combat β Standard is plenty; want to dress your party up right away β go Deluxe.
Why everyone is talking about it
For a small studio's debut this is a rare story: Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 didn't just sell well β it became the industry's main conversation. At The Game Awards 2025 in December the game took Game of the Year plus a fistful of trophies β for direction, narrative, performance (Jennifer English as Maelle) and art direction. Reviewers kept noting that behind the turn-based facade hides one of the tensest combat systems of the year: almost every enemy blow can be parried or dodged, and skill matters as much as the numbers in your build. That mix of cinematic delivery, Lorien Testard's score and deep combat is exactly what carried the project to the top.
How you receive the gift
What's sold here is a Steam gift, not a key. After checkout the bot adds itself to your friends via the invite link, sends the gift, and once delivered it leaves your friends list β no manual accepting. All that's left is to hit "Accept Gift" in Steam, and Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 lands in your library like any purchase. Steam Guard isn't required, and you don't need any prior activity or owned games on the account. We don't quote a fixed delivery time: it runs through the bot, and the order status is visible on the site.
The gift region β the key condition
A Steam gift is accepted only if your account region matches the gift region, so the page has variants for different regions β pick exactly the one your Steam is registered in. The second rule: the game must not already be in the recipient's library β Steam won't let a gift land on a title you already own, and that's the number-one cause of failure. If the region doesn't match, the gift isn't accepted and its value returns to your site balance, ready for a new attempt or another game.
Where you can play
The Steam version runs on Windows PC. The game carries a Steam Deck compatibility rating, so you can take Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 handheld too. Requirements are reasonable for a project of this visual quality β if your hardware is borderline, check the Steam store page before buying. The platform in both editions is the same: PC via Steam.
Who it's for
If you value big narrative RPGs with thoughtful combat and don't shy away from mature, melancholy themes, this is your game. The reactive combat brings it close to action-RPGs, while the turn-based core and build-crafting tie it to genre classics. People come for the story and stay for how beautifully and harshly it's told.
Buying in short
Pick Standard or Deluxe for your region, leave your invite link and account region, place the order β and accept the gift in Steam. Payment works from Russia and the CIS, and if something goes sideways with the friend request, message the chat and we'll help β no timing promises, just straight talk.
Where to go after the Expedition
Fell for Clair Obscur: Expedition 33's depth of story and combat? Then Baldur's Gate 3 is worth grabbing β a giant story RPG where every choice drags consequences behind it and one playthrough is never enough. And to decide what comes next yourself β another RPG, some cosmetics, anything β a Steam wallet top-up keeps a balance ready for your next find.
