Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare is a sci-fi first-person shooter by Infinity Ward, released on November 4, 2016. What the game is and why it's worth a look

Infinite Warfare is a big three-part package: a single-player campaign, competitive multiplayer and a co-op Zombies mode. Each piece stands on its own, so you can grab the game for the story, for online battles, or for wild fun with friends. The space setting noticeably refreshed the series' formula, and by modern standards the game is light on hardware, so the barrier to entry is low.

Campaign: Nick Reyes and the Jackal

The story puts you in the boots of Captain Nick Reyes, commander of the warship Retribution, who stands against the Settlement Defense Front fleet led by Admiral Salen Kotch (played by Kit Harington). Between story missions you fly the Jackal fighter freely, board enemy ships and choose the order of optional objectives — a notable step toward openness and variety for such a linear series.

Multiplayer and Combat Rigs

The competitive side of Infinite Warfare is built around the Combat Rigs system — different soldier classes, each with its own abilities, gear and playstyle. You pick a Rig to match your approach, level up weapons and jump into online modes. It's the multiplayer that gives the game a long life after the campaign is done.

Zombies in Spaceland

The standalone co-op mode Zombies in Spaceland is a wild ride set in an '80s amusement park: disco, neon, horror humor and waves of zombies. Your team fends off the undead, uncovers the map's secrets and upgrades gear. For many, the Zombies mode is the main reason to return to Infinite Warfare years later.

• Legacy Edition — Infinite Warfare plus Modern Warfare Remastered, a full remaster of the iconic 2007 Call of Duty 4 with rebuilt visuals and audio. Two games in one gift.
• Digital Deluxe Edition — everything from Legacy plus the Season Pass with four map packs (Sabotage, Continuum, Absolution, Retribution) and a set of bonus cosmetics.

One important detail: at launch Modern Warfare Remastered couldn't be bought on its own — it shipped inside Legacy and Deluxe. If you want both space and the classic in one go, look at the higher editions.

What the "Legacy Upgrade" is

There's also a Legacy Edition — Upgrade option on the page. It's not a standalone copy of the game; it's an upgrade that adds Modern Warfare Remastered to a base Infinite Warfare you already own on your account. It only makes sense if you already have the standard version. If you don't own the base game, choose a full Legacy or Deluxe edition so you're not left with an upgrade and nothing underneath it.

The process is simple and barely involves you. At checkout you fill in two fields: your Steam friend invite link and your account region. System requirements and platform

On PC, Infinite Warfare is distributed through Steam, so the gift lands in your regular library like any other game. By modern standards it's light: a quad-core CPU, a GeForce GTX 660 or Radeon HD 7850 class GPU and around 8 GB of RAM are enough. So it'll run on older builds too, which is a plus if you want to return to the game without upgrading hardware.

If the gift doesn't go through

Nothing bad happens: if the regions don't match or the game is already in the library, the gift simply won't be accepted, and its cost returns to your account balance on the site. We check the region before payment, but Steam does the final check.
