Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War takes the Black Ops series back to its roots: a spy thriller set in the early-1980s Cold War and a direct continuation of the first Black Ops. It was developed by Treyarch with Raven Software, published by Activision, and released on November 13, 2020. On PC the game lived only on Battle.net for a long time and finally arrived on Steam on March 8, 2023 — and now you can receive it as a regular Steam gift straight into your library.

What kind of game it is

The campaign revolves around hunting a Soviet agent named Perseus and an operation under the codeword "Solomon". You play an operative codenamed Bell, who you can partly customize, and the story moves through East Berlin, Vietnam, Turkey and secret KGB sites, occasionally throwing branching choices and morally grey decisions at you. It's a more intimate, spy-flavoured Call of Duty than the big military blockbusters fans usually expect.

Beyond the campaign, the Standard Edition includes the classic competitive multiplayer with the familiar weapon-leveling progression and the co-op Zombies mode — the launch map is called "Die Maschine" and continues Treyarch's beloved Zombies saga. The Standard Edition is the complete base game in full: the single-player campaign, multiplayer, and the Zombies mode. It does NOT include seasonal battle passes, Call of Duty Points bundles, exclusive operator skins, or weapon blueprints from higher tiers like the Ultimate edition. Regions: how to pick your option
