A Total War Saga: TROY — the Trojan War as grand strategy
A Total War Saga: TROY is a historical strategy game from Creative Assembly, released in 2020. It is set in the Bronze Age, on the shores of the Aegean, where the legendary Trojan War unfolds, inspired by Homer's Iliad. This is not a dry history lesson but a living retelling of the myth, where every decision adds a new page to the saga of Troy's fall. You receive the standard edition as a Steam Gift and dive straight into an age of heroes, sieges and divine schemes.
Who you play as
The campaign features legendary heroes from both sides of the conflict. For the Achaeans there is the furious Achilles, the cunning Odysseus, the ambitious Agamemnon and the wronged Menelaus. For the Trojans and their allies there is the noble Hector, the bold Paris, the brave Aeneas and Sarpedon. Each hero has a distinct playstyle, unique mechanics, personal epithets and duels. Achilles is fearsome in battle but moody to manage through his rage; Odysseus relies on guile and espionage; Hector is the backbone of Troy's defence. Your choice of leader shapes both your starting position on the map and the whole character of your campaign.
The Aegean map and a five-resource economy
The turn-based campaign plays out on a map covering the Bronze Age Greek world — from mainland Greece to the coast of Asia Minor and the islands. Instead of abstract money there is a system of five resources: food, wood, stone, bronze and gold. This forces you to think strategically: armies must be fed, walls and siege engines built from stone and wood, and elite units equipped with bronze. Diplomacy plays a huge role — alliances, marriages, gifts and betrayals decide wars just as much as battles do. Epic hero duels on the campaign map add theatre: challenge an enemy leader to single combat and settle a battle before it even begins.
Truth Behind the Myth versus mythological mode
The signature feature of TROY is the "Truth Behind the Myth" concept. By default, mythical creatures are interpreted rationally: a minotaur is a mighty warrior in a bull hide, harpies are a band of light archers, a cyclops is an outcast giant. This gives a grounded, believable antiquity. But if you crave pure myth, you can switch on the mythological mode, and real monsters appear on the map — minotaurs, harpies, giants, cyclopes — each with its own behaviour and power. On top of this runs a system of divine influence and "favour of the gods": pray to Zeus, Ares, Athena or Apollo, gain bonuses and unlock unique options. One game thus offers two different experiences — for fans of history and for fans of legend.
Real-time battles
As befits the Total War series, after a turn on the campaign map battles are fought in real time. Hundreds and thousands of warriors meet on the field, and victory goes to whoever best uses terrain, flanks, morale and unit types. Chariots break formations, archers rain arrows, spearmen hold the line, and a hero in the thick of it can turn the tide. The sieges of Troy with its famous walls are a treat in themselves for anyone who loves assaults and defences.
How the Steam Gift delivery works
You buy A Total War Saga: TROY as a Steam Gift. Our bot adds you as a friend or sends the gift directly, then leaves once delivery is done. You don't need to send or accept a friend request manually — the bot handles everything. Steam Guard is not required to receive this gift. Delivery usually takes a couple of minutes.
Important region and account conditions
For the gift to land correctly on your profile, your Steam account region must match the gift region. It is also important that the game is not already in your library — Steam will not let you gift a game you already own. The price depends on the chosen region: A Total War Saga: TROY has over forty regional variants, so always check the region before buying. If you are unsure which region suits your account, clarify it in advance.
What to read next
If this antiquity strategy clicked with you, take a look at Total War: PHARAOH — the neighbouring era of the Bronze Age collapse in Egypt and the Near East. Fans of vast campaigns with dozens of factions will enjoy Total War: THREE KINGDOMS set in China's Three Kingdoms era. And if you want to build your own civilization from scratch, check out Humankind. Each of these games offers its own angle on grand strategy, but TROY remains the only one where you personally lead Achilles to the walls of Troy.
